Background of the Study
Human resource (HR) strategy is a critical driver of business growth in competitive and dynamic markets. It involves aligning HR practices with organizational objectives to ensure sustained success (Becker & Huselid, 2023). Globally, firms that integrate HR strategy into their broader corporate strategy experience better financial performance, higher employee engagement, and competitive advantage (Ulrich et al., 2024). For Dangote Cement, one of Nigeria's largest manufacturing companies, HR strategy plays a pivotal role in supporting its ambitious growth targets.
Gombe State, located in northeastern Nigeria, offers a unique context for understanding the impact of HR strategy on business growth. The region's economic potential, coupled with Dangote Cement’s expansion efforts, highlights the importance of effective HR practices in driving productivity and profitability. However, challenges such as skill gaps, employee retention, and organizational culture often hinder the effectiveness of HR strategies in achieving desired outcomes (Olagunju & Musa, 2023).
This study explores the relationship between HR strategy and business growth, focusing on Dangote Cement's operations in Gombe State. By examining this relationship, the study aims to provide actionable insights for optimizing HR practices to foster organizational growth.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical role of HR strategy in business growth, many organizations struggle to effectively align their HR functions with strategic objectives. Dangote Cement, while renowned for its operational efficiency, faces challenges in implementing HR strategies that fully support its growth ambitions. Issues such as high employee turnover, insufficient training programs, and misalignment between HR policies and business goals have been reported (Adigun, 2024).
In Gombe State, where the local labor market is characterized by skill shortages and limited access to advanced training, the effectiveness of HR strategies in driving business growth remains questionable. This study addresses the need to critically analyze how HR strategies impact business growth in Dangote Cement and identify areas for improvement.
